Dr. Tom is a 1976 graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University and is the former Medical Director of the Paris Hill Cat Hospital. A self-described cat-focused scientist, Dr. Rothwell holds a PhD in Paleontology from Columbia University and the American Museum of Natural History where he studied the fossil record of the earliest cats to enter North America, 16 million years ago.
“Today, I use data from my fossil felid research to help fellow veterinarians improve the medical and surgical care of our patients, both captive and domestic felids. I offer scientific evidence that all members of the family Felidae, including the pet cat, have been eating a meat protein diet with 10% or less carbohydrates for 29 million years. The need for low carbohydrate cat food is not a belief system nor a theory. It is a scientific certainty.”
